Children will want to spend the whole day at the beach or at the pool during your stay in Mauritius. You will want to enjoy the impeccable climate of Mauritius to travel the island. But you may still encounter bad weather. And a rainy morning is an excellent excuse to visit the small but charming aquarium of Mauritius. The aquarium has more than 100 species of animals, many of which are located in Mauritian waters.
The aquarium is located in the small coastal village of Pointe aux Piments in the north of Mauritius. If you want to see what kind of fish can be seen in the lagoons of Mauritius without getting wet, this is the place to go. It is about a 20-minute drive from Grand Baie. A new ecological system was invented for the aquarium. It reflects the depths and environment of the ocean, and will transport you to another world.
In total, you will find in the five buildings different basins and reservoirs, in which you will see 150 types of aquatic animals whose habitat is located in Mauritius and its environs. The largest reservoir measures 15 meters long and contains a multitude of marine animals on which you can have an impressive view. For small visitors, you will get the “touch pool” in which you can interact with non-dangerous marine animals.
Fish meal time is daily at 11:00 a.m. You will have the opportunity to observe animals as impressive as sharks, turtles and morays feed themselves at this hour. Guided tours are not available in the aquarium, but if you have any questions, you can ask one of the six staff members. In addition, you will find a small souvenir shop and a snack bar offering various drinks and lunches.
