The Tea Route in Mauritius

A 30-kilometre itinerary in the heart of the island, embark on a journey to discover the origins of tea, its manufacture, different flavours, and manufacturing process with the tea route. Travel through three emblematic places to unearth a new facet of Mauritius.

The first tea producer on the island since 1892, Bois Chéri Tea Plantation is located on the high plains. Start by visiting the green fields where with a little luck you can observe the harvest. Then proceed to the factory where all the manufacturing steps, from dehydration to packaging, are detailed.

Then move on to Domaine de Saint-Aubin: set around an authentic 19th-century colonial house, you will come across a museum, a mini-farm, a botanical garden and a children’s playground. La maison de la vanille will reveal all the secrets of the cultivation of this popular spice, which you can admire in the greenhouses.

Finally, complete your visit with Domaine des Aubineaux and its gardens. This colonial residence built in 1872 is full of furniture and pictures dating from the time of the East India Company. Domaine des Aubineaux was the first house in Mauritius to have electricity in 1889. Don’t miss out on a cup of tea and biscuits under the gazebo!
